๐๏ธ Coloring Books About Seed Saving
Teach Kids How to Save Seeds
We now have downloadable coloring books to teach kids about seed savings. These are a fun, hands-on way to teach kids about gardening, seed saving, and the full growing cycle from seed to seed. Designed for libraries, classrooms, and families, they pair perfectly with story time programs, garden lessons, and home learning activities.
Librarians can incorporate the coloring books into themed story times by reading a gardening-related book and sending children home with a matching coloring book and seeds to plant. The accompanying seed-saving zine also provides parents and caregivers with simple information about saving seeds and donating them to local seed libraries or community programs. If you are able to bring in some dried beans to shell or seeds to process that is a nice hands-on addition to the story time or to a school activity.
The coloring books are free to download on our Seed Saving with Kids page. All files are hosted on Canva, making them fully customizable. You can easily make your own copy and edit the text, add branding, or add activities to fit your program or community needs. We have a how to save beans, peas, lettuce, and tomatoes coloring books, and all books are available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. If you translate them into another language, please let us know and weโll be happy to make those available to benefit others.
For adults, consider providing the Zines that have planting, seed saving and donating information. Here are customizable Zines for adults in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese. Make a copy to edit. (Read more about the zines on our Seed Returns page.) You could also the Auto Seed Wrapper to make informative seed packets. (Scroll about halfway down the page to find the Auto Seed Wrappers.)
